Washington, DC poet and public-interest lawyer Brian Gilmore is the author of three collections of poetry, including “elvis presley is alive and well and living in harlem” and his latest, “We Didn’t Know Any Gangsters” (Cherry Castle Publishing). His work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and literary journals. He was a Cave Canem Fellow in 1997, a Pushcart Prize nominee in 2007, and a recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards in 2001 and 2003. A longtime columnist with the Progressive Media Project, he teaches at Michigan State University.
