  • Lenard D. Moore, University of Mount Olive

    Lenard D. Moore, founder of the Carolina African American Writers’ Collective, has had poems, essays and reviews published in several journals and newspapers. His poetry has appeared in anthologies such as Obsession: Sestinas in the Twenty-First Century (Dartmouth College Press, 2014); Villanelles (Knopf, 2012); Black Nature: Four Centuries of African American Nature Poetry (The University of Georgia Press, 2009) and The Haiku Anthology (Norton, 1999), and has been translated into several languages. His most recent book is A Temple Looming (WordTech Editions, 2008). He is recipient of the Raleigh Medal of the Arts for Lifetime Achievement (2008) and Margaret Walker Creative Writing Award (1997), among other awards. He is a Cave Canem Graduate Fellow (1998-2000) and a Soul Mountain Fellow (2007). He often reads/performs his poetry with jazz musicians. Mr. Moore teaches Advanced Poetry Writing and African American Literature at the University of Mount Olive, where he directs the literary festival and advises The Trojan Voices.
